MORTON'S NEUROMA

A Morton's neuroma is one cause which is pain beneath the 'ball' of the foot.  It is due to an inflammation of a nerve in the foot. This is caused by entrapment of the nerve under the metatarsal head.

Symptoms usually begin with pain and numbness in a specific spot in the 'ball' of the foot.  It may feel like a small stone or marble under the foot.

Diagnosis can be difficult at first and several examinations may be necessary.

Treatment can be conservative (no operation) or surgical.

Surgical options have a 90% success rate.
