TENDON PROBLEMS
Due to the fact that there are many tendons that control ankle and foot movement, foot and ankle surgery involves treatment for conditions of these tendons.
This includes tendon rupture such as an Achilles tendon rupture; or a tendon that has been cut as a result of an accident.
Tendons can become inflamed, thickened or stretched which may cause pain, weakness or a change in the foot shape. Sometimes ankle supports can help but surgery may be required to provide a correction and longer lasting solution.
There are a number of conditions that result in tendon weakness and so this leads to poor function or deformity of the ankle and foot. In these cases it may be that surgery is required to move a tendon to a more useful position to provide better function and balance.
